About This Product

This antique Coastal Jar is an object sourced by Olive Ateliers and is exactly as-shown. Originally used to store dates, olives, spiced oil and other provisions in the Moroccan communities, the bold unglazed finish of a terra cotta jar exhibits a fusion of cultures when life and trade across the Mediterranean thrived on its coast with origins tracing back thousands of years.

"Bare feet cross the stone threshold beneath a crown of bougainvillea rooted in the aged Coastal Jar. As the vine climbs the porch posts the Carolina Wren nests in the tangle of the thorny branches just out of reach of your neighbor’s cat.”

Each facet of the jar is unique and exhibits not only the hands that made them but the ones that used them. Expect a rich patina and natural wear that speak to its age and authenticity. Non-structural imperfections and minor repairs may be present, adding character to the object. This object is not modernly water safe and should be used with a separate internal water tray or properly sealed with drainage if planting directly for use outdoors.
