THE LIEU DE VIE COLLECTION

CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE

For handcrafted wood, designed to be lived with.

At Olive Ateliers, we celebrate the character and variation of natural wood. Our Lieu de Vie collection is handcrafted to be lived with, aging gracefully as you use it. Care and maintenance let you decide how your pieces evolve: preserve their original finish with gentle cleaning, or let them develop a warm patina. Either way, your wooden pieces will remain honest to their natural material.

Below, you’ll find simple, clear guidance for care and upkeep. Use this as you wish, as a roadmap for preserving your objects or as reassurance that time itself will shape them into something uniquely yours.

DAILY & PREVENTIVE CARE

Dust or wipe after each meal with a barely damp soft cloth (microfiber or cotton). Immediately follow with a dry cloth; moisture should never sit on the surface if you wish to fully maintain its current appearance.

Dust weekly using a soft, lint-free cloth to remove airborne dirt and maintain the finish. If you wish, use coasters, placemats and felt pads under tableware and objects to prevent scratches, heat marks, and rings.

Keep furniture away from damp walls, heat sources and direct sunlight; excessive moisture can cause swelling and warping, while dryness and sunlight can lead to cracking and fading. Maintain consistent indoor humidity levels; avoid placing wood furniture in bathrooms or balconies where humidity fluctuates.

CLEANING FOOD & DRINK STAINS

Fresh Stains (within a few hours): Blot (do not rub) any residue with a dry cloth. Lightly dampen another cloth with warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Gently rub the area in circular motions following the grain. Wipe again with a clean damp cloth to remove soap residue. Dry immediately with a soft towel. Avoid scrubbing.

Light Oil or Grease Stains: Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch on the spot to absorb the oil. Let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes. Wipe away with a soft dry cloth. If residue remains, lightly wipe the area with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry immediately.

Dried or Set-In Stains (wine, tomato sauce, coffee): Mix equal parts white vinegar and water and test on a hidden area first. Dampen a cloth with the solution (never soak the wood). Gently rub the stained area in the direction of the grain. Immediately dry with a separate cloth. For darker or persistent marks, a mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide may help; always test on an inconspicuous area first.

Note: Always test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area first. When in doubt, consult a professional for advice on caring for your specific wood finish.

LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE

Expect slight shifts in color and character as the wood ages; this natural patina enriches the piece over time.

If you wish, you may periodically apply a natural wood conditioner or furniture wax to nourish the wood and protect the finish. Follow the product instructions and buff along the grain. Please note this will darken the finish.

Check joints and hardware regularly and tighten or repair any loose parts to ensure stability.

STORAGE & PROTECTION

If you must store the furniture, choose a climate-controlled space to avoid extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations. Cover pieces with breathable fabric (not plastic) to prevent dust while allowing the wood to breathe.

Lift furniture when moving; dragging can stress joints and scratch floors.
