At Olive Ateliers, we believe in the quiet beauty of natural materials and the stories they gather over time. The Sentimentalist Collection is crafted from rattan, teak, and thoughtfully selected upholstery - materials that respond to their environment and evolve with use. Care and maintenance are yours to define: preserve their original character, or allow them to soften into a more lived-in expression.

Below, you’ll find clear, practical guidance for care and upkeep. Use this as a framework to support longevity, performance, and the natural aging of each piece.

NATURAL RATTAN FURNITURE & DECOR

Everyday Care:

Wipe gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust and debris. Avoid excessive moisture.

Cleaning:

A dry brush to clean the surface, avoiding water unless necessary.
Do not use chemical cleaners. Lightly clean and dry immediately.

Environment & Placement:

Suitable for indoor use and outdoor environments when properly maintained. For outdoor use, we recommend using protective covers when pieces are not in use to limit prolonged exposure to moisture and sun. Avoid extended exposure to direct sunlight and heat sources, which may cause drying, brittleness, or cracking. Allow to dry before covering.

Structural Considerations:

Rattan is flexible and resilient but not designed for excessive weight or concentrated pressure. Residential use recommended. Avoid standing on seating or placing heavy objects on woven areas.

Feet & Surface Contact (Important):

Each piece includes plastic floor protector feet. Ensure they remain in place to protect furniture and surfaces.

Aging Gracefully:

Natural variation and tonal shifts will occur over time. The lacquer finish will gradually soften with use and exposure. Minor fraying or fiber lift may occur and can be trimmed carefully. This is a natural characteristic, not a defect.

UPHOLSTERED CUSHIONS & PILLOWS

Indoor-outdoor capable upholstery with removable inserts and fabric tie attachments

Construction:

Removable inserts for all cushions. Back and seat cushions secured with fabric ties.

Everyday Care:

Vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Shake out and air cushions periodically. Rotate and flip regularly to promote even wear. Bring inside when not in use.

Care Tags (Important):

Each upholstered piece includes a sewn-in care label located inside the zipper of the cushion cover. Refer to this tag for fabric-specific cleaning instructions and regulatory information before proceeding with any cleaning method.

Cleaning Instructions:

Blot spills immediately. Do not rub. Use a mild soap diluted in water with a soft cloth or brush. Do not use chemical cleaners. Lightly clean and dry immediately. Do not soak.

Shell (Sunbrella):

Outdoor grade fabric: 98.1% Sunbrella® Acrylic, 1.9% Sunbrella® Polyester.

Spot clean recommended. If needed, machine wash cold on the gentle cycle.

Bleach when needed. Air Dry. Iron under lowest setting not exceeding 100ºF.

Bayside Stripe (Kravet):

Outdoor grade fabric: Polyester 100%

Spot clean recommended. Air Dry. Hand wash if needed.

Bleach okay. Iron under lowest setting, not exceeding 100ºF.

Tidewater Stripe (Kravet):

Outdoor grade fabric: Acrylic - 66%, Polyester - 34%

Spot clean recommended. Air Dry. Hand wash if needed.

Seaside Stripe (Kravet):

Indoor fabric. 100% Cotton.

Dry clean only.

Removable Inserts:

Lining: 80% Polyester, 20% Cotton; Filling: 100% Polyester Fiber

General Notes:

Avoid harsh scrubbing or high heat drying. Do not allow cushions to remain saturated.

Indoor / Outdoor Use Considerations:

As specified, these materials may perform in both indoor and outdoor environments when properly maintained. For outdoor use, we recommend bringing cushions indoors when not in use or during prolonged exposure to moisture. Ensure cushions dry fully before reuse or storage.

Aging Gracefully:

Sunlight and seasonal changes will gradually soften colors and textures.

Expect softening of cushions and subtle shifts in tone with use and exposure.

TEAK FURNITURE & COMPONENTS

Solid weathered teak with natural oils and protective finish

Everyday Care:

Wipe clean with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners.

Cleaning:

Use mild soap and water with a soft cloth or brush. Rinse lightly and dry thoroughly.

Environment & Placement:

Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Ensure proper drainage and airflow in outdoor settings. Avoid standing water.

Surface Behavior:

Teak may develop a silver-gray patina over time when exposed to sun and moisture.

To maintain the original tone, apply a teak sealer periodically.

Structural Notes:

Natural expansion and contraction may occur with environmental changes.

Minor checking or hairline cracks are normal and do not affect structural integrity.

Aging Gracefully:

Color will shift from warm tones to a silvery patina if left untreated outdoors.

This evolution is natural and does not impact performance.
