CAST FURNITURE
INSTALLATION, CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE
For objects designed to live beautifully outdoors, in every season.
At Olive Ateliers, we believe in the beauty of age and authenticity. Our outdoor cast furniture is crafted to live with you, to weather, and wear naturally over time. Care and maintenance are yours to choose — preserve your objects to maintain their original finish, or let them evolve into a characterful patina, reminiscent of found vintage treasures. Either way, they will remain honest to their material soul.
Below, you’ll find simple, clear guidance for installation, care and upkeep of Cast Furniture and accessories.
INSTALLING YOUR CAST FURNITURE
Each piece of our Cast furniture is crafted to the highest structural and aesthetic standards. Built with moisture-resistant additives and internally reinforced with steel rebar or metal lathe, these pieces are as enduring as beautiful.
Installation is straightforward: simply place any pedestals at your desired spacing, then set the top(s) in place, ensuring balance and proportionate overhang. Some tables utilize steel brackets for additional support.
Due to natural variations in flooring or slight inconsistencies in the surfaces, you may notice minor gaps between the pedestal and the floor or the pedestal(s) and the top. Similarly, multi-part tops may not perfectly align to each other. This is not to worry. To level and secure the tabletop, we have provided durable plastic shims to correct any imbalances.
For added stability for table tops without multiple legs or brackets, we have provided a 4oz tube of Loctite PL Premium Max Construction Adhesive waterproof adhesive for a secure yet reversible bond. Please carefully follow the instructions on the bottle to complete this installation step, securing the table top to the pedestal, as desired for comfort and safety.
CARE & CLEANING
Our Cast Furniture pieces are hand-finished and require minimal upkeep. With time, they will develop a natural patina that adds to their character. For regular cleaning, a gentle solution of warm water and mild soap is all that’s needed to remove outdoor buildup. For deeper cleaning, a diluted solution of soap, water, and bleach may be used, though please note this may alter the finish.
For regular upkeep, simply wipe surfaces free of dust and debris and clean with a gentle solution as above. Spot clean promptly after spills. Allow to fully dry before continued use. Remove tannin-rich debris (like leaves and twigs) promptly to prevent environmental staining. If desired, covers may be used to further protect surfaces and finishes, especially in leaf-heavy environments.
Should small chips or scratches occur, please use the provided touch-up stain and brush to restore your piece’s beauty. Brush a small amount of stain to the affected area and wipe away quickly with a rag. Repeat to desired finish.
WINTER CONDITIONS
Planters, fountains, and birdbaths should always be emptied of water before freezing temperatures set in. If possible, bring them indoors for the season. If they must remain outside, elevate them slightly on treated wood strips to prevent water from collecting underneath. Containers without drain holes should be turned upside down to avoid trapped water, which can freeze and cause damage.
Furniture, statuary, and wall décor with flat surfaces that don’t collect water can typically stay outdoors with little to no concern. For best results, place them on solid surfaces like stone or decking rather than directly on soil or grass, especially in colder climates.
Hairline cracks may naturally occur over time, particularly in freeze-thaw conditions. These are cosmetic only and will not compromise the integrity of the piece. Each object is internally reinforced with materials like fibers, iron, or mesh to ensure lasting durability.
A FINAL NOTE ON NATURAL AGING
Outdoor environments are wonderfully unpredictable. Temperature shifts, sunlight, moisture, and even the passage of time will each leave their mark on your Olive Ateliers objects. Embrace these changes as part of the life of your furniture and accessories. Whether you choose regular maintenance or let nature take its course, your objects will continue to tell their story, season after season.
