THE VESTIGE COLLECTION
CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE
For objects designed to live beautifully outdoors, in every season.
At Olive Ateliers, we believe in the beauty of age and authenticity. Our outdoor collection is crafted to live with you, to weather, and wear naturally over time. Care and maintenance are yours to choose — preserve your objects to maintain their original finish, or let them evolve into a characterful patina, reminiscent of found vintage treasures. Either way, they will remain honest to their material soul.
Below, you’ll find simple, clear guidance for care and upkeep. Use this as you wish — as a roadmap for preserving your objects or as reassurance that time itself will shape them into something uniquely yours.
METAL FURNITURE
Welded iron frames with imitation patina and a protective UV‑resistant semi‑gloss lacquer finish
Everyday Care:
Wipe clean with a soft cloth and mild, non‑abrasive soap diluted in water. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, as they may compromise the protective lacquer.
Long‑Term Maintenance:
The lacquer finish protects against the elements, but natural degradation will occur over time, especially in harsh conditions. If desired, reapply a clear, exterior‑grade metal sealant annually to extend protection.
Storage & Protection:
While designed for outdoor living, prolonged exposure to moisture or extreme sun may accelerate patina and wear. Use furniture covers when not in use, especially in off‑seasons or during heavy weather.
Aging Gracefully:
Expect soft shifts in tone and character as the finish matures. Surface oxidation may emerge, especially at weld points, enriching the object’s appearance over time.
Caution: Metal surfaces can become hot in direct sunlight. Always use care when handling, especially in warmer temperatures, to avoid injury.
OUTDOOR UPHOLSTERY
Outdoor‑rated fabrics with water‑resistant internal construction (foam, fill and thread)
Removable Upholstery:
Bring cushions indoors between uses when possible to extend lifespan.
Fixed (Non‑Removable) Upholstery:
Keep covered when not in use to minimize exposure.
Cleaning Instructions:
Remove loose dirt. Prepare a mixture of lukewarm water and mild soap. Rub the mixture in with a soft brush and allow it to thoroughly soak into the fabric. Rinse and air dry fully before storage.
Machine washing is not recommended due to construction details.
Avoid pressure washing or aggressive scrubbing, which can damage the fabric's integrity.
Additional Protection:
Prior to first use, apply fabric protectant sprays designed for outdoor use (e.g., 303 Fabric Guard). Apply additional coats after any cleaning. Test on an inconspicuous area first.
Weather Considerations:
Our upholstery materials are water‑resistant, not waterproof. Quick‑drying foam and outdoor‑rated fill help resist mildew, but cushions should not sit in pooled water.
Aging Gracefully:
Sunlight and seasonal changes will gradually soften colors and textures. Rotate seat and bench cushions regularly to promote even and extended aging.
AGED MARBLE TABLE TOPS
Weathered textural marble surface with a protective UV‑resistant matte lacquer finish
Everyday Care:
Wipe spills promptly with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners which may damage the lacquer finish.
Long‑term Maintenance:
The lacquer finish protects against the elements, but natural degradation will occur over time, especially in harsh conditions. If desired, reapply a clear, exterior‑grade metal sealant annually to extend protection.
Storage & Protection:
Use covers or move indoors during extreme weather conditions. Prolonged exposure to standing water can lead to water spots or surface changes over time.
Aging Gracefully:
Our marble surfaces are intended to weather gracefully. Over time, expect soft etching, textural changes, and a deepening of natural character.
A FINAL NOTE ON NATURAL AGING
Outdoor environments are wonderfully unpredictable. Temperature shifts, sunlight, moisture, and even the passage of time will each leave their mark on your Olive Ateliers objects. Embrace these changes as part of the life of your furniture and accessories. Whether you choose regular maintenance or let nature take its course, your objects will continue to tell their story, season after season.

TECHNICAL APPENDIX
Â
Metal: Painted iron is coated with UV‑resistant polyurethane lacquer. While the lacquer provides initial protection, natural erosion from environmental exposure is expected. In high‑exposure climates, reapplication of sealant, such as a clear exterior‑grade polyurethane (UV‑rated), is recommended annually if pristine appearance is preferred.
Upholstery: Fabric is outdoor rated but not impermeable. 100% acrylic, with a UV‑resistance rating of over 1,500 hours and a Wyzenbeek abrasion rating of 30,000–60,000 double rubs, making it durable and suitable for commercial use. Water‑resistant thread (Serafil) and quick‑dry fill (Cluster Fiber Trillium) offer resilience. Foam core is Dryfast49, designed for airflow and quick drying, mitigating mildew risk. Spot‑cleaning: pH‑neutral soaps only; avoid bleach‑based or solvent cleaners.
Marble: Weathered texture with polyurethane lacquer coating. Sensitive to acids and alkalis. Additional coats of surface polyurethane lacquer can be applied annually if maintaining the original surface is desired.
Â
RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Â
Monthly: Wipe surfaces free of dust and debris. Inspect for early signs of finish wear.
Seasonally (Spring/Fall): Clean all surfaces thoroughly. Reassess protective coatings.
Annually: Consider professional re‑sealing of metal and marble if maintaining pristine appearance is preferred.
As Needed: Spot clean promptly after spills. Allow to fully dry before continued use.
Â
PROFESSIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Â
Re‑sealing Metal & Marble: Use clear, UV‑resistant sealers compatible with PU finishes. Avoid products with high solvent content which may degrade existing layers.
Upholstery Protection: Prior to first use, apply fabric protectant sprays designed for outdoor use (e.g., 303 Fabric Guard). Apply additional coats after any cleaning. Test on an inconspicuous area first.
Storage: During off‑seasons, store furniture in covered, ventilated environments to prevent moisture build‑up.
